You can see see in this example below how this is done and what it looks like if you were to break it down into indivudal segments. ![]() The first thing I pick up on in this video essay about Sam’s use of movement is how he uses leading lines to create seemless movement. This example can be seen below as the sand moves further up the frame we then cut to the next shot, transitioning between the two. One example is where he uses the movement of the sand to transition to a shot of some fireworks which are travelling in a simialar direction within the frame. He matches up movement in certain shots to create small transitons which are effortless and carry the flow of the music e.t.c. This is something I can look into further and hopefully learn more about to see if it would be suitable and within my capabilities to achieve for this project.Īnother one of his techniques is to use fast moving shots to constantly keep the flow of energy going and keep audience fixed to the screen. ![]() One thing that is mentioned in this part of the essay is Sam’s use of a technique/effect called illuma fade which helps to transition between locations as shown below. The effect this has on his films is a constant flow of movement and energy in every shot which helps to keep people engaged. ![]() Sam’s use of transitions is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before and is something I’m really keen to replicate in my own work.
